The short version
I studied animation at the University of Salford, in MediaCityUK: stop-frame and 3D animation, drawing, movie pipelines, compositing, and production planning. Before that, four years of intensive C++, web and SQL at a computer science high school in Iasi. The two halves were never really separate.
After graduating I freelanced as a 3D artist for two years. Props, short animations, interior and furniture visualisation, logos, menus and leaflets. Then in 2016 I moved into software full time and have been there since.
Today I am a senior developer on a multi-version product platform serving somewhere between five hundred and a thousand client sites. I own feature development, fixes and technical strategy across it, and I can work in any part of the system. Alongside that I run research and development on product visualisation, which is where the animation background stopped being history and became useful again.
What I am good at
Large systems that have to keep working, and the API design and third-party integration that comes with them. I am good at taking a problem that lives in a spreadsheet or a CAD file and turning it into software other people can use. The narrower skill, and the one fewer people have, is getting 3D onto the web in production rather than as a demo.
I have also led informally. I was technical lead for two 3D artists, ran training sessions for them, and built the tools they worked in day to day.
Right now
I have learned what there is to learn where I am and the work has stopped pushing me, so I am looking for something that will. I want a senior role, and I work in Romanian and English.
Home, office or hybrid all suit me equally, and travelling to an office abroad from time to time is something I would enjoy rather than put up with. I am open to relocating. I spent three years in the UK for university, so it is something I have done rather than something I am guessing about.
I like that the company I am at now owns its own product, because you master a process faster when the thing you work on stays put. The other thing I want is consistency. Working in a startup gives you a lot of freedom in how you write code and that has its drawbacks too, so I would like to find out what working in a large company is like.
If I could pick the domain it would be finance, or making software secure. Either of those put together with what I already do would be the job I most want. That is a preference and not a condition. Anything goes.
On the freelance side I am a one man army, and I have helped businesses both small and large solve their problems. That covers building the thing as well as advising on it.
